Alphabet Songs

Have you noticed how "techno sounding" the "new music" is becoming?  I swear all I hear from my son's iPod is techno spin off music with a tremendous beat....

Well, if it's the "new music", you know your students are more than likely listening to it at home and in the car too....so....why not make it educational?
If you've never heard of havefunteaching.com
or been to YouTube and viewed some of their videos...
You're MISSING OUT BIG TIME!
I LOVE their music and the videos are awesome and wonderful for the kids to view!
My kiddos this year really got into "the beat" of their music!

So I'm thinking... for the beginning of the new year....
I'm going to try using the Alphabet Songs as we review each of the letters and sounds those first few weeks!  I think it's a new way and catchy way of getting them into the alphabet and I really like the way the songs use the words vowels and consonants...
Here's a YouTube video of the Alphabet Song/ABC Song/Phonic Song available...

They also have a video for each of the letters that's great for reviewing the sounds and words that have the letter in them...Take a peek at the letter S....love the repetition and the way the song identifies the letter as a consonant...

The Alphabet Songs are available for you to purchase from many different providers including amazon's mp3 and iTunes.

The Alphabet Videos are on sale today for $20....and you get all of them.
Check it out HERE.

I may have to come up with some kind of a game or manipulative for the words for the letter songs so the kids can find the word that's on the screen and match it to the song as we watch...
Perfect activity to get them used to a "working snack" as we begin the new year!

Hmmm.....you'd think I'd be ready for summer break????
Maybe my brain will take a break someday :)

Parent Volunteer End of the Year Gift!

It's that time of year when I "rack" my brain (well...let's be honest...my mother's too, since there's not much left of mine at this time!)...to find something unique and fun to say THANKS to those parents that take time to support us in the classroom throughout the year by coming in and helping with AR or other fun room mom duties :)

So a trip to the infamous Dollar Tree was in order!

People probably thought I was a kookoo bird as I walked the aisle looking and talking to myself as I walked...

And ....voila!  Take a look at this green monster fuzzy wonderful thingy!

and the perfect size bottle of my favorite dish washing detergent :)

Put them together....and what do you get?

The perfect Swamp Frog scrubby for my wonderful parents!

Well....you need to add some googly eyes and felt hands...

Add a Thank You Note....

Which the kids loving signed....

Just a thought...but thought I'd share...

Enjoy!

Alien Invasion

I LOVE skyping with Mamaw and creating the wonderful things she thinks of to go with my favorite books!

I wanted the kids to be able to hear Mamaw reading this adorable book....so...through the magic of podcasting, I was able to use her voice and create a story movie of the book with her reading. You can listen too...

After we listened to the book a couple of times, we talked about the different illustrations of the aliens inside...we worked with partners to come up with some names that the aliens might have been called...Then we skyped with Mamaw to use the pieces she sent us and create our own Aliens.

We used a bubble map to help us organize our thoughts and ideas for a story about our aliens....some of us still need a story frame to help us gather our sentences together to create a story that makes sense...

All of our creations were then photographed using the iPad app "Sonic Pics" and our stories were recorded and added to an iMovie project.

You can view our project on our website...

or enjoy it here... video

Hop over to my TPT store to get your free copy of the alien project Mamaw helped create.

If you like it, leave a comment and maybe she and I can work "long distance" on some more this summer :)

If you've got a book suggestion you'd like to see us tackle...leave a comment with the title and author...
maybe...we'll give it a go!

Enjoy!

A Summer Bucket List....well...sort of....

There's a "party going on" and it's got a lot of great ideas
for things to do over the summer!

8.5 more days for the kids...
10 more for us teachers....
The count down is ON!

Then it's off to help my husband achieve a dream of a life time....
He'll be running across America on trail this summer...

Yep...you heard right...RUNNING across AMERICA...

80 days with an average of 42 miles a day!

How do you do that?
.....very carefully and with a LOT of support!

A pre-thanks to all those who are helping to make this a dream a reality for him....

*****
to those who are house sitting...couldn't do it without knowing that things at home will be taken care of and someone will be in the house keeping things running smoothly while we're away...I promise to try to get the house neat before you move in...we'll have to see how much of my classroom I have to move home this year :)
******
to those who are taking care of the yard and the cars...blessings come to you from us and our neighbors...you'll probably be much better at it than we are!
*******
to those making sure the kiddo gets where all he needs to get to and then bringing him to meet us...YOU ROCK!  Thanks for making things possible for both of the Samuelson boys...
************
to those that are helping with the crewing duties...you are most appreciated for your time and effort to keep things going in the right direction, patching up blisters and boo-boos, making sure he has what he needs when he needs it, and driving the "Road Runner" where it needs to be with care!

So how does this all figure into MY summer bucket list?

Well....sometimes you do things for the ones you love and you find there are things you love to do on the way...

I like to travel....
I love to take pictures...
and I LOVE to create things!
So I think I'll spend some of my crew time using different  resources to take some photos of this amazing journey and put together a photo journal
"Running Across America from the Crew's Point of View"

....sounds good anyway
....and gave me an excuse for buying the new camera :)

Plus I'll be spearheading the daily blog updates on
the runners' progress....
yes...runnerS...
there are several other amazing people who will attempt to run this dream with my hubby!

Should have some time to come up with some more ideas for station games and activities for our next school year too....well...maybe!

Maybe some ideas will come together for informational text units and activities to teach about the obscure areas we'll be traveling or the different trails he'll be running....
like...
The Iron Horse Trail

The Cowboy Trail

The Wabash Cannonball Trail

Would be fun to see if I can create some non-fiction passages with constructive response questions to go along with some great learning of the trails of America....

hmmmm.....there's another idea for a photo journal...

"Great Trails of America"

...see... it IS a good thing I got that camera!

...our prayer team is a vital part of this dream, too....
We'd love to have you join in the fun...

Isaiah 40:31 "But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint."

Be sure to hop over to the linky party and check out all the wonderful ideas that people are putting on their summer bucket lists and link up yourselves!

No blog...no worries...
leave a comment here about something you plan to do this summer ... if it's a pinterest idea
...leave a link and we'll be sure to check it out too!

Hang in there and "run with endurance" toward the end of the year! The beginning of summer and a time of renewal is just around the corner!

QR Code search for Money

Here's the latest QR code search....this one's for money concepts....

I found some really cute pig die cuts at school that I'll be gluing the codes to and laminating before hanging around the room.

Here's what the codes will look like and the key to what the code says.  I'll create an answer key to use when checking their work.  I've also shown them how I want them to draw the coins....however, you could have them stamp the coins instead.

Here's the recording sheet.  Couldn't figure out a way to make it a half sheet....so I'll more than likely print on both sides to save paper.
