Math Resource Website
This amazing website was just shared on a yahoo group I belong to....WOW! Love it!
It has game and center ideas to go along with the Common Core Math Standards for K-5.
I plan to take some time this summer to dissect this site to pieces :)
Enjoy and thanks to Nancy Tangorra of the KinderKorner Yahoo group for sharing!

Alexander Graham Bell
Here's some of the games we're using for Scott Foresman's Reading Street:
"Alexander Graham Bell"
Connect Four boards were created by Nancy Bland using Adrian Bruce's website...
We're also playing "Pig" with the different levels...here's the Advanced Group Words...
Here's the version for the SI and OL groups....
Just in case you need the directions for PIG:
You can download them here.
Enjoy! I'm off to Nashville for some more training with the Common Core Standards :)

First Grade Yahtzee
We'll spend some time this week playing "First Grade Yahtzee" with dice in dice.
I adapted this idea from the wonderful Shari Sloane...if you've not been to her site, you need to go visit! She has TONS of game ideas and downloads to use with both Math and Reading! I love her games and find that they are very useful and fun to play!
Another game we'll use these last few days is "Unlucky Seven". It helps the kids see a little more clearly about probability....you can download this board at Shari's site...www.kidscount1234.com....
Here's the download for "First Grade Yahtzee" just roll the dice in dice cube and write down the number sentence you want to claim the number. For instance, if you roll the die and get a 2 and a 5....you could claim the 7 by writing 5+2=7 or the 3 by writing 5-2=3.
Enjoy,

Frog Snap
We're starting Ben Franklin's Kite next week and I found this on our server as we were transferring files...it's a game I adapted from "Kelly's Kindergarten"....you can find the directions by looking at Crocodile Snap...
I like to pass out the frogs to each child in the group and then as I call out the fly words, they can snap them up and feed their frogs by putting the fly words on top of the frog cards. When someone has fed all their frogs...the game ends and they must read all their cards to win :)
I'm so glad to see blogger back on track and working well! Had a rough time with some severe "withdraw" symptoms...but it helped to be super busy with "Field Day" and another training with the state on Common Core Standards...
Anyone heard of or using "Batelle for Kids"? Great resources for formative assessment and ideas to "Break Down" the Common Core Standards and write clear learning targets using "I Can..." statements.
Hope all are having a wonderful day!

End of the Year Gift Ideas
I plan to get each one of the kids a deck of cards with some games they can play during the summer to keep their addition and subtraction fact fluency current :)
If that one doesn't work..please see if this one will by clicking: Here :)
I'll probably add some frog stickers and a note to the front of the playing card boxes to make it more personal....I found them at the Dollar Tree for

Mystery Math QR Code Scan 2
The QR code scanning was a big hit last week! With only one iPod Touch that has a camera, it took us the whole week to finish this center....but the kids really got the hang of the scans and loved recording and solving the problems. I was also able to review how to use addition to help with subtraction!
Danica Elder at "First Grade Frogs"created a QR code for math shapes that's really cool!

I still like using one code sheet because I only have one iPod...however, I created a recording sheet this time...instead of just using their spiral notebook.
Here's a sheet that might be better if you have an iPod cart and want to use it with more than one student!
or use the Download here....

Mother's Day Idea

I work with the "bestest art teacher in the world"! She had the kids complete these posies last week and I plan to have the kids turn them into the cover of a cute Mother's Day booklet...
Here's some of the inside pages we'll use....(the blank ones are for those who might have someone else raising them instead of mom at this time :)

Download the file for the inside pages HERE!
Here's another download for the pages...
Should be a fun time!
Enjoy,
Heidi
