Veterans Day Power Point

To help my firsties understand Veterans Day a little more, I created a power point of this holiday.
Here's a preview of some of the slides in the power point...

I thought it would be a good idea to add some writing to go with the power point, so there's a tree map for creating sentences to describe what the kids took away from the power point.

I don't know about you, but I LOVE using the tree map organizers to help my kiddos create their own sentences and stories.  If you haven't checked the info on the soldier craft project from Deanna Jump's unit, google it!  They're terrific!

Thanks to all those who serve our country....
both the families who sacrifice the time away from their loved ones and the soldiers that keep us safe!
God Bless!
Heidi

Thank you so much. I will share this with my students. We are making cards for a WWII veteran who is going to DC on the flight of honor this week. So excited to use this powerpoint to get them ready to create the cards!

THANK YOU!!!

I have searched for meaningful ways to teach my 2nd graders about Veteran's Day. And yes, just a few days ago I found the soldier project by Deanna Jump. But still, I lacked the content. I so appreciate that you shared this powerpoint!!!

What an interesting way to help young people understand. I'm not sure what the 'tree map' is or how it works though.

Thank you for your kind words - my daughter is in the Navy!

I came here from the "Teaching Blog Addict" site because this is a great idea for our Linky Party too this week. The theme is 'Veterans Day' this time.

Would you like to add your post to our site? We're somewhat new, yet getting good traffic already and ranking very well for the search engines.

We'd love to host your 'link' there this week too!

So glad you are finding things useful! We had a great time using the power point and creating DeAnna's Veteran. We'll use the tree map this week (ran out of time on Thursday) to develop our sentences to write about Veterans...we use the tree map to organize our thoughts and come up with sentences using Veterans and then one of the verbs...for instance...
Veterans are kind. Veterans are people who serve our country. etc.
Thanks for all your kind words! Hope you all had a blessed Veterans Day!
