Songs to Teach

I LOVE teaching concepts and procedures with songs.
I just find it engages my kiddos so much more and they tend to keep it in
their brain a lot longer!

Here's one of the first songs we start singing from the very first day....
I think I was at a conference in Texas when I first heard the idea,
but I have no idea who created the song.
I had to adapt the words a little as we put
our name AND our number on the paper.
But it's rare that I have an un-named paper now :)

I had the words made into a poster and it hangs
proudly at the front of the room.

Download the song words [HERE]!

Enjoy your day!

  1. This is fab! I do name and number too so it's perfect for my class!

    Rowdy in First Grade

  2. We sing this all the time! The kids love it!!! We also do another one with the same tune about the second thing on your paper is the date because the teacher needs to know when you did this work and so...

  3. Love it Andrea!
Have to come up with bigger poster now!
    Thanks for the idea!!!

  4. LOVE IT! Thanks for sharing!! :D

  5. My kids love the song. You can say your name instead of "the teacher." It works great.

  6. I love this! It's simple, catchy, and fun to sing! Just the way I like it. Thank you so much for sharing.

  7. Love this idea! What a great way to make sure their remember ther name :)

  8. I use "Put your name on the top - on the top.
Put your name on the top - on the top.
Put your name on the top. Then sit quietly and stop.
Put your name on the top - on the top!

  9. I love this! I am going to start using it on Tuesday when we return back to school! Thank you for sharing it with us :)

  10. What a great idea! I'll bet this helps your students remember to put their name on their papers.

  11. Great idea but can you tell me what is their number? How do you use the number?

    Thank you!

  12. I number each child in the class. That way when they turn in their papers, I can quickly put them in numerical order and grade for the gradebook;). Also works for getting in line : numerical order least to greatest, even numbers line up, odd numbers turn in your papers, etc.

  13. I'm your newest follower!! What a great song! :)
