Lacing Beads

Check Out these great lacing beads from the dollar spot at Target!

My plan is to change out the string for thicker shoe laces or pipe cleaners...

The kids and  I will create an "I Can chart" similar to this one to show all the different things they can do at the Lacing Beads station.  The chart will start of with one or two things and build to more as we introduce more skills throughout the quarter...

Here's are some of the ideas for task cards that will eventually be at the station with the lacing beads...

I tried to make each set of cards deal with one number for the addition sentences...

Enjoy,
Heidi

I'm also heading to Target tomorrow! What if you had a die with numbers and one with colors? So they could roll a 2 and red and put 2 red on, then they might roll a 4 and blue and put 4 blue on.

Isn't Target addictive? I love going to other cities and stopping by...JUST the Dollar Spot...my family thinks I'm crazy!
t. ulch...I probably will use a foldable to have them record their findings eventually, but not at the beginning...I don't have a recording component in all my stations. I let the kids use white boards in many...just so they are writing the things down, but after they show their board to me, and get their "prize", it's erased :) I've also been reading Debbie Diller's book and like how she uses a shared journal concept...where everyone records their findings in a spiral :)
Thanks for asking...made me think deeper!

Hi, Heidi.

You are making my retirement very difficult!!!

Actually, I think I will go to the local craft's store and see about beads. I have several grandnieces who will be at mid-year vacation next week, and their grandmother (my sister) will be counting on me to "entertain" them. Last week I made bead bracelets that I used with my first graders with my niece´s first grader. Internet is a little slower here, but I am trying to keep up with the groups.

Thanks and keep the ideas flowing.

You have the best ideas! I just shared on my blog about some of my Target finds. I'm printing out your task cards right now and plan to use them with the beads in summer school this week. Thank you!!

I am so glad you posted this! I am moving from 5th grade to 1st this year, having never taught anything lower than 4th! I'm feeling totally overwhelmed and underprepared, since I have absolutely NO resources whatsoever, not even math manipulatives! This is such a great idea; I'll be heading to Target today! I tend to overspend in my zeal - any suggestions as to how many packages I should pick up? I will truly buy everything they have if I don't regulate myself somehow! :)

Thanks again!
