One of my most favorite story books to use with the kids is "My Little Sister Ate One Hare" by Bill Grossman! It's got it all! Math, writing, creativity, and most important for the boys...grossness!
The kids have a blast with this book and it becomes a most popular read over and over! You can hop on by the Swamp Frog Podcasts to listen to the story being read.
I've created a powerpoint to go along with this amazing book that helps the kids count out the animals as they learn what the little sister is eating. I've also created a page that the kids can use to tell what yummy things their little sisters...or brothers...might eat!
Some lucky blog reader will get the share code to download the powerpoint and the book making project papers as well as a file I created to make story telling props for this unique counting excursion!

Heidi, I found your blog while home on a snow day. I was attempting to get my own blog going again. (For now it is just a communication tool between my class and families. I am following now and just amazed and thankful that you are sharing so many wonderful ideas.
